DALLAS MORNING NEWS: The Dallas Stars yesterday introduced Jamie Benn as their new team captain, the sixth in franchise history since it was relocated to Dallas.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Benn has emerged as the Stars franchise player so it’s no surprise they tapped him as their new captain.
CHICAGO DAILY HERALD: Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa will miss at least the next four games to what is believed to be a back injury.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not the kind of start to preseason play Hossa envisioned. He was plagued by a back injury during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but it’s unknown if it’s the same type of injury.
NORTHJERSEY.COM: NY Rangers defenseman Marc Staal is hoping to be more of an offensive contributor this season.
TWINCITIES.COM: New Minnesota Wild defenseman Keith Ballard is happy to be playing pro hockey in his home state. Ballard played the past three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks but was bought out of his contract this summer. He signed a two-year, $3 million deal with the Wild.
