NJ.COM/PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE: Stefan Matteau scored his first NHL goal and Adam Henrique and Bobby Butler scored third period power-play goals, as the New Jersey Devils downed the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1. It was the 1, 200th career NHL game for Devils seemingly ageless goaltender Martin Brodeur. Brandon Sutter scored the long goal for the Penguins, whose winning streak was ended at five games.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER/STLTODAY.COM: Nick Bonino netted the shoot-out winner for the Anaheim Ducks, who won a wild one over the St. Louis Blues by a score of 6-5. Bobby Ryan (2 G, 2A) and Teemu Selanne (1g, 3A) had four-p0int nights, while Alex Steen and Chris Stewart each had a goal and two assists. The Blues also received word veteran forward Jamie Langenbrunner will undergo hip surgery and is gone for the season.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC/MERCURYNEWS.COM: Mike Smith made 33 saves and Radim Vrbata scored the game-winner as the Phoenix Coyotes edged the San Jose Sharks 1-0 in a shootout. Sharks goalie Antti Niemi was perfect through regulation and overtime, but was beaten by Mikkel Boedker and Vrbata in the shootout.

THE BUFFALO NEWS/ NEWSDAY: Ryan Miller made 41 saves and Alexander Sulzer potted the game-winning goal as the Buffalo Sabres nipped the NY Islanders 3-2. The Islanders dominated the game but Miller’s performance stole a win for his struggling Sabres. John Tavares, who scored one of the Isles two goals, had a chance to tie it on a penalty shot late in the third but clanged it off the goalpost.

PHILLY.COM/NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Daniel Briere scored with 1.47 left in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Brayden Schenn had a goal and two assists for the Flyers, while Jiri Tlusty, Jeff Skinner and Joe Corvo tallied for the Hurricanes.

STARTRIBUNE.COM/THE TENNESSEAN: The Minnesota Wild ended a three-game losing skid with a 2-1 overtime win over the Nashville Predators. Devin Setoguchi potted the game-winner for the Wild on the power-play, while Cal Clutterbuck collected their other goal. Paul Gaustad had the Predators lone goal.

WASHINGTON POST/MIAMI HERALD: Braden Holtby kicked out 27 shots backstopping the Washington Capitals to a 5-0 win over the Florida Panthers. Troy Brouwer scored twice, Joel Ward had a goal and an assist, and Alexander Ovechkin also scored in the Capitals win.

SPORTING NEWS: The Tampa Bay Lightning-Boston Bruins game scheduled for Saturday has been postponed as a result of the blizzard which slammed into the Northeast on Friday night, blanketing Boston in over two feet of snow.

THE DENVER POST: Adrian Dater reports the NHL is showing little signs of damage from the recent three-month lockout.
