NJ.COM/MIAMI HERALD: The good news for the New Jersey Devils is they edged the Florida Panthers 2-1. The bad news is they lost Ilya Kovalchuk to a shoulder injury. The severity of the injury has yet to be determined as more tests will be conducted today or Monday.

THE TENNESSEAN/COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Pekka Rinne made 21 saves and Martin Erat had two assists as the Nashville Predators downed the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2. STARTRIBUNE.COM/SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS: Niklas Backstrom made 33 saves, Ryan Suter collected two assists and Zach Parise scored the game-winner as the Minnesota Wild blanked the San Jose Sharks 2-0. The win keeps the Wild atop the Northwest Division, tied with the Vancouver Canucks but holding a game in hand.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS/DENVER POST: Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves, Jamie Benn had 3 assists and Jordie Benn potted his first NHL goal as the Dallas Stars thumped the Colorado Avalanche 5-2. The win edged the Stars into eighth overall in the tight Western Conference standings.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: The Tampa Bay Lightning yesterday re-signed forward Nate Thompson to a four-year, $6.4 million contract extension.

DETROIT FREE PRESS:  The Red Wings should soon have defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo back from injury, and are pursuing college free agent blueliner Danny DeKeyser.

NEW YORK POST: Placed Stu Bickel on waivers yesterday and could be without J.T. Miller (wrist) when they face off against the Washington Capitals.

NEWSOBSERVER: Carolina Hurricanes forward Zach Boychuk cleared waivers yesterday and was demoted to the Charlotte Checkers, where he began this season during the lockout, ending one of the strangest journeys around the NHL via waivers in recent league history.
