Defending Daniel Alfredsson, coaching options for the Canucks, rating Oilers coach Ralph Krueger first season and wondering which Marlies could join the Maple Leafs next season.
OTTAWA SUN: Tim Baines rises to the defense of Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, whose “probably not” response to a question about his club’s chances to rebound against the Penguins had some pundits and bloggers questioning his leadership.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Whether you believe Alfredsson was misquoted or speaking the truth, the fact remains he’s not going to give up because his club is on the verge of playoff elimination, and neither are his teammates, who are rallying around their captain.
VANCOUVER SUN/VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Elliott Pap suggested Lindy Ruff and Scott Arniel as two possibilities to replace Alain Vigneault as Canucks head coach, but Jason Botchford suggests it could take a long time this off-season for GM Mike Gillis to announce a replacement.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Gillis can take the entire summer if he wishes, but at least he’s got some good options (including Ruff and Arniel) to choose from.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples ranks how first year Oilers coach Ralph Krueger did handling his centers.
TORONTO STAR: Bob Mitchell speculates over which Toronto Marlies could graduate to the Maple Leafs next season.
