Blackhawks rally to force Game 7 with the Red Wings, the Kings and Sharks prepare for Game 7, updates on the Bruins and Penguins, and more.
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES/DETROIT NEWS: Michael Frolik’s penalty shot goal in the third period stood as the game winner as the Chicago Blackhawks rallied from a 2-1 deficit to edge the Detroit Red Wings 4-3, setting the stage for a seventh and deciding game of their Western Conference semifinal on Wednesday. Defensive breakdowns by Red Wings rookie defenseman Brendan Smith resulted in two of the Blackhawks goals.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: It was a tough loss for the Red Wings, who appeared to have the game in the bag after the second period. Their young defensemen earned raves for their roles in getting the Wings to a 3-1 series lead over the Blackhawks, but their miscues in the last two games are partially to blame for their club’s last two losses. The Blackhawks, meanwhile, appear on a roll, having battled back from a 3-1 series deficit to force a seventh game on their home ice on Wednesday.
SPECTOR’S NOTE:The home team has won every game in this series, a trend the Kings hope continues for Game Seven.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: For both clubs, the priority is shutting down each other’s top offensive forwards. Given the Penguins vaunted scoring depth, that could prove a difficult – though not impossible – challenge for the Bruins.
NEW YORK POST: Despite managing only one goal and five points in 12 playoff games this spring, NY Rangers forward Rick Nash believes his performance was “good”.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Nash is being ripped for that comment, but I doubt he meant it as it sounded. Having limited playoff experience, he knows he could’ve played better and looks forward to doing so next season.
