NHL Rumor Mill Update – April 1, 2013.

No, it’s not an April Fool’s joke, there’s more rumors as the NHL trade deadline nears. Read on for the latest on Jagr, Clowe, Roy, Bouwmeester and more.

Will the Stars trade Jagr or re-sign him?

Will the Stars trade Jagr or re-sign him?

ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun reports the Dallas Stars management is still debating if it wants to re-sign Jaromir Jagr or trade him. The Boston Bruins could be interested in Jagr…The Ottawa Senators are receiving calls about Ben Bishop, but they’re not under any pressure to move him. LeBrun thinks it could take a scoring forward to get him. Don’t expect Sergei Gonchar to be moved…The Carolina Hurricanes could be willing to move Jamie McBain for the right price. They’re also getting calls about Jussi Jokinen from clubs who want the ‘Canes to take a player back in return. The Canucks might have interest…No contract talks between the New Jersey Devils and pending UFA forward David Clarkson. Par for the course for GM Lou Lamoriello…The Blue Jackets may be willing to move one of their first round picks for a scoring forward, but not a rental player. LeBrun wouldn’t be surprised if they were willing to move a blueliner for that scoring forward.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Tough to get a read on what the Stars’ intentions are with Jagr. Should keep his name in the rumor mill for a while. I daresay they’re fielding offers…I don’t believe the Senators trade Bishop until Craig Anderson is back in action. Which means I don’t see Bishop moving at the trade deadline…The Hurricanes are believed seeking a shutdown d-man, which could explain why they’re floating McBain’s name…No, the Devils won’t trade Clarkson if he’s unsigned at the deadline. Lamoriello as a rule doesn’t re-sign pending UFAs during the season…Not surprised the Jackets are willing to move one of their 3 first round picks for a player who can help them now and after this season. They’re a playoff contender now.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: cited a report claiming San Jose Sharks winger Ryane Clowe could be dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers perhaps as early as today. The Flyers are believed “in on Clowe”, according to one report, but nothing’s confirmed…There’s also no further contract talks between the Dallas Stars and Derek Roy. The Canucks could be interested in Roy.

STARTRIBUNE.COM: Michael Russo reports Minnesota Wild GM Chuck Fletcher isn’t confirming if he’s among those pursuing Clowe. Fletcher said he’s always on the lookout for anything which could improve his club, and admitted he’s spoken with several general managers lately. Russo noted Clowe does have some ties with the Wild, as former Sharks Dany Heatley, Devin Setoguchi and Torrey Mitchell are in the lineup.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Steve Ewen reports of rumors the Vancouver Canucks are also getting into the Ryan Clowe sweepstakes.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Lots of anticipation Clowe could be dealt soon. Interesting the number of teams chasing him has grown. They do know Clowe hasn’t scored a goal this season and is banged-up, right?

PHILLY.COM’s Sam Carchidi reports via Twitter: “CONFIRMED: #Flyers are having exploratory talks for Jagr, Clowe and Bouwmeester.”

TSN’s Darren Dreger reports via Twitter: “Some consideration to keeping Ryan Whitney for Oilers playoff push (in-house rental) and signing Khabibulin for another year.”

  1. I see Dwayne Roloson v2 if the Oilers keep the Bulin Wall and with a deep goalie market next year I don’t think they need to resign him.

Only reason I can see so many teams in on Clowe is to extend him and hope he feels better next season.

  2. Hey Lile,

Any chance the Jackets might try and convince Marian Gaborik to come over from the Rangers?

  3. While the Jackets may trade one of their first round picks, considering their depth in defensemen, I would think it more likely they’d see what Tyutin, Nikitin and Aucoin could bring.

  4. Please Bob Murray get us Derek Roy!!!

  5. On Devils:
I want to see Clarkson traded for a first rounder.

I also see a d (Fayne or Tallinder) and a third or fourth going to Edmonton for Hemsky. We’ll see.

  6. LET’S GO PEN’S!!!

  7. I understand philadelphias need for a number 1-2 defence man. But how could they possibly entertain acquiring Bouwmeester with little to no cap space. Unless they moved someone’s contract like briere in a separate trade but it doesn’t make much sense to me

  8. @Bosky

Last summer the believed they had the cap space for Weber, so I am sure they could find a way to make Bouwmeester work. He would greatly help solidify things. The same for Regehr but he is on the way to LA.

I just hope Clowe ends up in a scoring role. I have stashed him on my fantasy team.

    • I’d rather see Philly go after someone with a more reasonable cap hit on D. I’d imagine we’d be paying a hefty price to acquire Jay-Bo why not look at some alternatives. Almost 7 million in cap space for Bouwmeester just doesn’t make sense.

…and just as I’m typing this Bouwmeester to the Blues!

      • The Flyers would have to give up one of Couturier, Schenn or Read to get back anybody of consequence (1a, 1b Dman)

I’d take a hard look at Jack Johnson in Clb… Highly doubt he’s available but just for the sake of conversation, cap hit is reasonable and signed long term at 4.35.

I’d even be willing to gamble on a guy like Erik Johnson… 4 pts in 23 games for the Avs. D isn’t a strong suit in their organization so tough to see them as a trade partner but you never know.

  9. Lou should be fired for not signing his UFA and letting them walk for nothing (Parise).
Imagine the return if they traded him last season.
