The Edmonton Oilers have traded defenseman Kurtis Foster to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for blueliner Andy Sutton.

The Oilers continue to remake their defense, shipping out Foster for Sutton, who’ll bring more experience and hopefully more of a physical presence to Edmonton. The Ducks meanwhile wanted to move out Sutton’s salary and in adding Foster they’ll get a less physical blueliner but one who does have a decent scoring touch, and is also capable of playing on the wing.

I happen to like the move. More mobility on the back end.

Trading Sutton for a bag of pucks would be an equally good move. I was happy when they signed him, I remember how physical he is, but couldn’t believe how bad he’s become. Way too slow, gets beat all the time, too many stupid penalties, and can’t make a pass. Great for penalty killing, and that’s where the Ducks need help.
