The Florida Panthers have fired head coach Kevin Dineen along with assistants Craig Ramsay and Gord Murphy. They’ve elevated Peter Horachek, who coaches their AHL farm team in San Antontio, as Dineen’s replacement.

Florida Panthers fire their coaching staff.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: When you can’t fire the players, you fire the coaches. It’s been rumored for several weeks the Panthers could shop some of their veterans, and GM Dale Tallon has reportedly tried to find a trade. Unfortunately, too many teams lack the cap space to make significant moves right now, leaving Tallon without a trade partner.

Besides, the only Panthers most teams have interest in are their promising youngsters like Jonathan Huberdeau, Aleksander Barkov and Nick Bjugstad. Tallon has no interest in moving them

The Panthers are a mess right now, and if they’re going to save their season Tallon had to do something. With no season-saving deal to be found, replacing the coaching staff was his only option.  Time will tell if it helps.

  1. Dabroons says:

Considering the garbage on their roster, Dineen didn’t do a bad job.

    Lines last night:

    Upshall 19 Huberdeau 11 Matthais 18 Barch 21
    Barkov 16 Bjugstad 27 Goc 57 Gomez 23
    Versteeg 32 Winchester 17 Fleischman 14 Kopecky 82

How horrible a team is that?

  2. Steve says:

I hope Darcy is on the line to Ramsay so that Rolston can go back to Rochester!

  3. I have to agree with you Steve. Craig Ramsey is one of those guys who always get overlooked just like Rick Dudley. Speaking of which he would make a decent GM for somebody (the possibly Buffalo should Darcy get canned. )
