SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Penguins were in the market for a scoring winger and were though to be in the market for bigger fish like Vanek, Callahan and Cammalleri. They instead acquire Stempniak, a versatile winger with decent offensive skills.  More of a depth move than anything, but he’ll be a serviceable and affordable playoff rental.

  1. He is a good enough shooter that he should get a look on Crosby’s wing. It’s really a shame they couldn’t get Cammaleri at a last minute bargain.

  2. I’m happy. Have been hoping they’ve get him for a few years now. He is a solid player who gives them depth scoring, brings a good attitude and work ethic and can play anywhere in your top three lines if need be. He is cap friendly right now and if he clicks, could be an option for next year if the price is right.
