Penguins claim Cal O’Reilly.

O'Reilly claimed off re-entry waivers by Penguins.

Various sources report the Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed center Cal O’Reilly off re-entry waivers from the Phoenix Coyotes. It’s the third NHL team O’Reilly has belonged to this season, having been dealt to the Coyotes by the Nashville Predators back in October.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Penguins will pick up half of his remaining salary, which TSN’s Darren Dreger listed as $375K, meaning the Pens only pick up half of that. An affordable depth move by the Pens.

  1. pretty embarrassing and wasteful by Don Maloney, spending a 4th round pick (sent to Preds a few months back) and hundreds of thousands of dollars of cap space, so the guy can play for Pittsburgh

  2. Wondering if this means Asham is expected to miss a lot of time.

  3. I suspect Asham may end up missing some significant time. Regardless however, this was a great depth move by the Pens which will cheaply help to shore up the back two lines, especially right now with the injury situation being as it is. Another solid move by Shero!
