The Pittsburgh Penguins today announced the signing of veteran forward Richard Park to a one-year, two-way contract worth $550K. Park is a former Penguin, who spent 13 years in the NHL, and played last season in Switzerland.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Decent depth signing for their checking lines.

I would imagine this to be a two-way deal for depth at the AHL level. The baby Pens already a loaded line-up in there though with Vitale, Craig, Williams (likely) and now Park able to play the center position. Couple that with a defense that will have Sneep, Strait, Bortuzzo and Valabik (perhaps Despres too if he does not impress in training camp to replace the injured Orpik) and stellar goaltending provided by Thiessen and it looks like they could make a run at it.

Fun fact, former Pen Richard Park was Geneva’s second leading scorer to another former Pen -> Jeff Toms.

    Good pick up by Pittsburg.

They desperately needed a veteran player with NHL experience and Richard fills that role perfectly.

At $700,000 and a guarantee of between 25 to 30pts and past experience with playing with Pittsburg it’s a win win.

    Great job Pittsburg!

Love this deal. Nice to see Park come back to the Pens. I love his heart and work ethic which is going to fit in really nicely on the last two lines and int he team mold in general. Some people have also mentioned the veteran presence that he will provide, which I couldn’t agree more. It sort of replaces the departed Rupp in that respect. Another instance where Shero works some magic!

Interesting fact GPG. I totally forgot about Toms.
