Penguins trade Kennedy to Sharks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have dealt forward Tyler Kennedy to the San Jose Sharks for the 50th overall pick in this year’s draft.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kennedy is a restricted free agent coming off a $2 million per season deal. He’s  struggled since his career-best 21 goal, 45 point performance in 2010-11 and failed to grab a regular spot in the Penguins top six this season.  The Penguins cannot afford to re-sign Kennedy, and with no pick in the second round were looking to move up. Kennedy should have a better chance to get back into a top-six role with the Sharks.

  1. Great move… clears some cap space to help re-sign Duper and Cooke and get back one of the picks we traded at the deadline. We essentially traded Kennedy for Jussi Jokinen when we picked him up at the deadline for nothing and got Carolina to cover part of his salary… sounds like a deal to me.
