SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Predators aren’t wasting any time attempting to shore up their depth at center. Having signed Olli Jokinen earlier this month and Mike Ribeiro earlier today, they now add the 31-year-old Roy to their ranks.

Roy’s better days, however, seem well behind him. His offensive production’s been in steady decline since a career-best 81 points in 2007-08. He hasn’t been the same since undergoing left quadriceps tendon surgery three years ago.

Since 2012 he’s bounced from Buffalo to Dallas to Vancouver to St. Louis. While he’ll make a good depth center for the Predators, they shouldn’t get their hopes up that he’ll regain his offensive form. At least they got him for an affordable, short-term deal.

  1. Waste of a roster spot

  2. Preds loadin up on has beens. That said they can get good use outta them prolly

  3. If the Preds r serious about adding offense n be a cup contender then Poile has to trade good d talent for a top 6 forward. Drafting d-men forever is ol news n time he drafts/trades for real forward talent.

  4. James Neal is the Real Deal. Time for Wilson and to a lesser degree Forsberg to step up or step out. Fisher is probably gone until Xmas break. Flames need to sign Setoguchi !

  5. I really don’t have any issue with the Preds giving Ribeiro and Roy 1mil-1year deals. Its super low risk and gives the options, and depth if they pan out down the middle. If either of them don’t turn out well you put them on waivers and demote them.

I really like Ribeiro at the price, since the coach and GM control him based on his contract.

    • Put on waivers n snapped up at that price n replaced with who?

      • At the end of the day I don’t think anyone expected the Preds to make anymore additions. So if either were to be dropped to waivers they would find someone internally to replace them, like Wilson or Forsberg. Or maybe make that trade for a centre.

  6. Not liking all these guys that can be considered me first players or guys that go missing for long
Periods of time that the Preds now have. 1 or 2 on a roster makes it tough but with Neal Ribeiro Jokinen Roy… maybe Poile figures if he signs enough of them one will always be producing? Someone also may want to mention to Poile that they play in the west where you may have you grind out a win or 2 in a very tight defensive game against some big teams not sure thats a great fit with some of these guys. Would have been further a head to make another trade or 2 imo, I guess they are all cheap enough but…
