The New York Rangers announced the re-signing of forward Carl Hagelin to a two-year, $4.5 million contract.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s an average cap hit of $2.25 million for the 24-year-old Hagelin, a healthy raise above the $875K he earned per season on his recent entry-level contract.
Hagelin had 24 points in 48 regular season games last season, and six points in 12 playoffs games. He has potential to become a reliable two-way, 20-goal, 40-point performer. A fair and affordable re-signing.
Hagelin’s new contract leaves the Rangers with around $4.3 million in cap space, with Derek Stepan, Mats Zuccarello and Justin Falk the remaining RFAs. Stepan should be the next one re-signed, which will determine if the Blueshirts have enough cap space for Zuccarello and Falk.
