Jonathan Ericsson re-signs six year deal with the Red Wings.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The new deal is worth an average cap hit of $4.25 million, which is a bump of $1 million per season over his current deal with an additional three years.

Ericsson’s played his entire career with the Red Wings, becoming a reliable blueliner in the process. He’s currently second on the club in ice time, making good use of  his skating and his 6-foot-4 frame as a mobile shutdown defenseman.

Ericsson was due for unrestricted free agency next summer and could’ve received a more lucrative offer from another club, but it was obviously more important for both sides to keep him in Detroit.
