Report: Bruins & Flames Close On Iginla Trade.

Various sources tonight report the Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins are close to a deal which would send Flames captain Jarome Iginla to the Bruins.

Iginla about to become a Bruin?

Iginla about to become a Bruin?

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As per TSN, the return to the Flames would be defenseman Matt Bartkowski, prospect Alexander Khokhlachev and a first round pick. Iginla was a healthy scratch from tonight’s Flames – Avalanche game, while Bartkowski was a healthy scratch from the Bruins and Khokhlachev was a scratch from the Bruins AHL affiliate in Providence. TSN’s Bob McKenzie also suggests the Flames could be using the Bruins offer as leverage, and simply scratched Iginla in order to protect him as a trade asset. If the trade is formalized the official announcement isn’t expected tonight.

  1. For Flames fans sake I hope this is just a leverage move as I don’t personally like the deal at all. I am a big fan of Bartkowski but he doesn’t scream top 4 material to me, more like a very solid 5th/6th guy who brings some character and PK knowledge to the table. However deep the draft, that 1st is bottom 6 in the draft more than likely … as far as Khokhlachev, gimmie a break! Have you watched this kid try and skate backwards or seen his defensive zone and back checking coverage?

I think it is a good base for the Flames and if you said Barkowski, Spooner, & 1st I’d be right on board with it.
