TSN’s Darren Dreger reports he’s heard the Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed defenseman Keith Yandle to a five year, $25.5 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Quick, somebody start a rumor this is a “sign and trade” and Yandle is being shipped off tomorrow to a big market team in exchange for a bag o’ pucks! Anyway, that’s quite the raise for Yandle, but also in my opinion well deserved, as he was amongst the top defensemen in the league last season, and has clearly emerged in the past two years as a blueline star. If he played in a more notable hockey market, he’d undoubtedly be more well known. Nice move by the Coyotes, and a vote of confidence by Yandle in the franchise.

Don’t get me wrong – Yandle’s great and all – but this makes the Bieksa signing look like a steal…

Oh, and TSN is reporting it at 26.25mil, and CapGeek is reporting it at 26.5mil. Looks like we’ll have to wait for the exact number…
