PHILADELPHIA SPORTS DAILY: Dave Issac reports a source confirms the Flyers are expected to announce at some point today the re-signing of forward James van Riemsdyk to a contract extensions. Details to follow…

**UPDATE** His new deal is for six years and worth $25.5 million, for an average annual cap hit of $4.25 million per season, and will take effect in 2012-13.  If van Riemsdyk blossoms into the scoring forward he’s shown the promise of becoming, this could be a worthwhile, affordable move by the Flyers.

One Response to Report: Flyers to re-sign van Riemsdyk to Extension.

I’m sure this will be his breakout season, but I’m a little surprised by the size of the contract. When I say “size”, I’m not referring to the amount, the dollar amount is consistent with the length, IMO. I just thought that a 3 year deal for less money would come before a deal of this length.
