TSN reports the NY Rangers are waiting for Marian Gaborik to waive his no-trade clause to accept a trade to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Details to follow…

Gaborik goes to the Blue Jackets.

Gaborik goes to the Blue Jackets.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The return for the Rangers is Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and John Moore. Gaborik has agreed to be traded.  This is huge! No one would’ve expected this to happen when the season began.

Gaborik’s name was kicking around the rumor mill for a month reportedly for a defenseman and a couple of grinding forwards. Dorsett will fill that role, while Brassard was considered more of a skill forward who wasn’t working out with the Blue Jackets, but should provide depth at center for the Rangers.

This should address the Rangers desire for more roster depth, but they are losing a talented scorer in Gaborik, even though he has struggled this season.

As for the Blue Jackets, it’s ironic how the roles have reversed since last summer, when they dealt Rick Nash to the Rangers. Back then, the Blue Jackets were a struggling club desperate to rebuild, while the Rangers were considered a  possible Cup contender. I’m not suggesting the pickup of Gaborik makes the Blue Jackets Cup contenders, but it could certainly bolster their hopes of making the playoffs this year. He’s being reunited with former Rangers Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov, and should feel more relaxed playing under a less harsh spotlight in Columbus.

Seriously, am I allowed to call YES on this one. I’ve been musing about this for the last little while (thought I thought a draft pick would be involved). Great pick up for the Jackets to get a new marquee player while they are playing so well.

Seems Glen Sather is delusional. Sell gritty diggers for a star … trade away fighters … have “I am become error” moment … trade star for gritty diggers … somehow retain job … My brain is rebelling against this whole idea, I have a really terrible headache now.

On the aside, is there even a remote chance the return for Gaborik will be there tonight against Pittsburgh? Probably Friday for the second game, or maybe later depending on the coach … sigh. Triple sigh. Hello 1998. 15 year anniversary. Welcome back.

Happy for Columbus, but hate to see them move dorsett in this one. Thought he had a future there. Regardless happy they got a piece that can help them out. Really like the mason trade for you guys as well.

Like it better now for Columbus now that it looks like you shipped a 6 rd pick and got two d prospects coming back.
