Report: Senators Trade Bishop to Lightning.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports the Ottawa Senators have dealt goalie Ben Bishop to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Cory Conacher and a fourth round pick.

SPECTOR’S NOTE:  With starter Craig Anderson set to return later this week from injury, the Senators evidently felt confident in moving Bishop, who did a terrific job filling in for the injured Anderson this season.  He’ll be a terrific compliment to young Anders Lindback with the Lightning moving forward. Bishop will finally get his chance to become an NHL starting goalie. If he plays as well for the Bolts as he did for the Senators, they’re going to be a much tougher team to score against. The Senators, meanwhile, get back a promising young winger in Conacher, who is in his rookie season with 24 points in 35 games, though his offense fell off through March. He should be a terrific fit with a young, building Senators team.

  1. Lyle,

What is the scoop on Conacher? I know he is a young guy, scoring pretty well and really lit it up in the AHL … but I know he is tiny and I haven’t had a chance to see much of him. Is this a good pick up for the Sens, or did the Sens get butchered in this deal?

    • Note: I didn’t see an update about Conachar yet!

  2. You will love Conachar. Neat guy, compelling history, college grad, agressive smurf. Wish we could have kept him, but Marty is still here, and we have three more fast – under 5’8″ – scoring forwards in the system. Conacher has the most NHL experience and is second in rookie scoring playing many less minutes that the leader. Hope Bishop is a complement to Lindback and can keep the puck out of the net a little bit. Lightning goalies have kept the third top scoring team in the league on the bottom of the standings, so I think we overpaid –
Ottawa also gets a fourth. You will love Conacher with Spezza when he comes back — he was great setting up Stamkos early on – and will go to the net on the PP. Very expensive for the Lightning, but if Bishop can play a trade that helps both teams.

    • Bishop’s has proven himself to be a solid NHL caliber goalie. Although I harbour some concerns about Conacher’s lack of size this trade will likely prove to be a win/win for both teams.

  3. Sweet trade for both teams! I just watched Conacher and the Bolts last night force overtime against the Panthers. He’s speedy and pesky, perfect for the Sens. I can’t wait for next tuesday when the Sens take on the Bolts in Tampa. He’s a good hustler and would fit well on a line with Spezza. Bishop will help the Bolts goaltending temendously. Having seen some of their games, Lindback hasn’t been what Yzerman was hoping for so far. Although, they have to get better defensively. Like the trade! Welcome to Sens nation Conacher!!!
