Report: Stuart Re-signs with Sharks.

Stuart inks new deal with Sharks.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reports via Twitter defenseman Brad Stuart has agreed to a three-year contract worth $3.6 million per season with the San Jose Sharks, accepting less money “to sign with a team that’s a good fit”. The new contract is expected to be officially announced within the next two days.

SPECTOR’S NOTE:  Stuart has stated his desire to play with a team close to his home in San Jose, which led the Detroit Red Wings to recently trade his rights to the Sharks, his first NHL team. This signing pushes the Sharks payroll to over $59 million invested in 15 players for next season.

  1. The Sharks are terrible at asset management! I love Stuart, glad he gets to play hockey where he wants too, but that team doesn’t have much left in it and they need to re-tool badly.

    • Now the Sharks just need to get a younger D man to replace Murray – maybe someone like Sekera. The Sharks also gave MacLellan a vote of confidence – I’m just not sure he is the guy. But the Sharks are now under pressure to make something happen and I don’t think making a trade with Marleau involved is gonna get a real good return – he’s 33 and a $7MM man and while he is a point getter – if I were a GM I wouldn’t want to pay that much for a 33 year old.
