Richards Signs with Rangers.

Various sources today report Brad Richards has signed a nine-year deal worth $6.5 million per season average salary with the New York Rangers.

**UPDATE** The salary is now reported at $60 million, with an average cap hit of $6.7 million per season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The deal is believed worth a total of $58.5 million, and Nick Kypreos reports it is heavily front-loaded, with Richards making $50 million in the first five years.  Ultimately, I’m not surprised that he chose the Rangers, and it is certainly a cap friendly deal for the Rangers, as there were some estimates he could go as high as $8 million per season. It remains to be seen how well he’ll mesh with Marian Gaborik on the Rangers first line, but if it goes as well as hoped, the Blueshirts will have significantly bolstered their offense.

  1. Good deal for NYR or no?

  2. Well, BB sure mafe a splash…in the sand. Hats off to him for trying, but nothing has changed except we lost a good PK guy in Tim Brent, and a good mentor for Reimer in Giguere. What now? Connolly, Arnott?
    ARGHHHH.

If Rangers go nowhere in the next 2 -3 years, and Tortorella is turfed, I guess Brad will still have his $$$$.

Does this mean Avery gets the boot via buyout?

  3. Now we get to see all the other dominoes fall as teams go for plan B.
