Sabres Bring Back Moulson, Devils Sign Havlat.

The Buffalo Sabres have brought back Matt Moulson, signing him to a five-year, $25 million deal, while the New Jersey Devils signed Martin Havlat to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: After bouncing from the Islanders to the Sabres to the Wild in one season, Moulson returns to the Sabres. The term is a little too long and the salary too much by $1 million per season. Still, if Moulson remains a reliable scorer for the Sabres it could prove worthwhile. He fit in well with them this season and had indicated his willingness to return after he was dealt to the Wild.

The Devils are taking a gamble with Havlat, who has a lengthy injury history, but at one year and $1.5 million it’s an affordable one.

  1. not much of a risk for havlat. Surprised not many other teams offered him that. 1 year is no problem and there is a chance it can pan out for them big time.

  2. Didn’t the Sabres have to reach the cap floor? I guess maybe that’s why Moulson got the extra million
