Sabres re-sign Gragnani.

Various sources report the Buffalo Sabres have re-signed defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani to a one-year contract. More details to follow…

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’ll be interesting to see how much Gragnani’s new contract will be, as the Sabres presently sit around $3.5 million over the salary cap ceiling. Somebody’s gonna be traded or demoted between now and early October.

**UPDATE** It’s a one-year deal worth $550K.

  1. Hecht or Kotalik have been rumoured for months now.

Kotalik has a no trade clause so Hecht is easier to move.

  2. Kotalik and Morrisonn go down to Rochester – that will clear $5MM off the books.

  3. Steve Nailed it.

Sabres have top 6 forwards of Ennis, Stafford, Roy, Vanek, Leino, Pommers. Bottom 6 of Gerbe, Gaustad, Hecht, Boyes, Kaletta, McCormick….Seven D men in Regehr, Myers, Erhoff, Leopold, Sekera, Weber and Grangani…Miller and Enroth behind it all.

That Means Ellis, Morrisohn and Kotalik are ticketed for Rochester and available should there be any injuries and Sabres need an Experienced Call up. With Luke Adam and Zach Kassian and Marcus Foligno knocking at the door next year they will likely let Hecht and Boyes go to make room for them.

McNabb, Pysyk and Schissel give them deep talent on the way on the Blue Line

Future looks real bright in Buffalo…

  4. MTL, I agree with you about Hecht and Boyes being gone in 2012-2013. We need to remember that Hecht, Boyce, Kaleta and Gaustaud are either UFA or RFA’s in 2012-2013 and that will free up $10MM to work with. Also, I think by that time Adam, Foligno, and Kassian should be able to step into a starting role. We really have a corps of great defensive prospects – McNabb, Pysyk, Schiestel and Brennan for the future and along with Morrisonn being gone, Weber, Sekera or Leopold can always be traded. I think signing Gragnani to a one year deal gives him the opportunity to be our 7th D-man and help anchor our D.

Have to agree – the future is bright!
