SPECTOR’S NOTE: Financial terms have yet to be disclosed, though there’s some speculation it could be in line with the six-year, $24 million deal inked by New Jersey’s Adam Henrique last month.

Since joining the Sabres in a late-season trade from Vancouver in 2011-12, Hodgson has blossomed into a promising young center. Last season he netted 34 points in 48 games, displaying the play-making skills which once made him a coveted Canucks prospect.

Given the uncertainty over the future of Thomas Vanek and Ryan Miller, and the Sabres apparent commitment toward rebuilding with youth, they evidently envision Hodgson as a key part of their future.

**UPDATE: The deal is for $25.5 million, or an average cap hit of $4.25 million. Imagine the Derek Stepan camp will be seizing on this in their contract talks with the NY Rangers.
