Sabres ship Roy to Stars.

Roy dealt to Stars.

Various sources tonight report the Buffalo Sabres have dealt center Derek Roy to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Looks like Roy won’t be part of any deal with the Ducks for Bobby Ryan. No surprise he got dealt, as the Sabres were reportedly trying to move him since last summer. He’s the obvious replacement for center Mike Ribeiro, whom the Stars dealt to Washington during the entry draft. Ott should provide the Sabres with grit and has decent offensive skills, though his role is primarily as an agitating energy forward. Injuries limited Pardy to only 36 games last season, and will likely become a depth defenseman on the Sabres blueline.

  1. Derek Roy can be a top center. Roy’s production could not elevate to a higher level in Buffalo. Now in a new location, Roy has a fresh start to see if he can be a top center.

Steve Ott, a center, left wing and right wing in one, is a versatile forward with more umph than the guy he is replacing, Jochen Hecht.

Adam Pardy joins a plentiful corps of Sabres blueliners.

The Sabres are focused on obtaining a power forward, maybe the elusive point producing first line center Sabres nation has salivated over for five years. Either Zach Parise is on the Sabres’ radar, or a trade is in the works to bring Bobby Ryan, Rick Nash, or someone good to Buffalo.

  2. Thank God Roy is gone..the buffalo bar scene isnt to happy as sales will dwindle. This guy scored more free drinks in a bar than he did on the ice..Cancer in the locker room also….GOOD BYE!!!!

  3. Lets see….Darcy’s gotten rid of Gaustad, Boyes and now Roy. Sorry to see Hecht go, but I think for his health, he should retire. We still have a bargaining chip with our D and also Vanek, another whiner. Ott gives us something we haven’t had since Drury left – a leader with some grit and he wins faceoffs, can score points and he doesn’t back down. Ott is someone I was hoping the Sabres would go after at the trade deadline.

Ott has a 2 year contract and gives the Sabres the opportunity to have Mikhail Grigorenko play in Rochester and if need be, he can be called up. It also allows Zemgus Girgensons, Justin Kea and Logan Nelson time to develop.

It was time for Roy and Boyes to go – seems to me, the more money they made, the less they wanted to do. If the Stars fans are used to getting 125% from Ott – they will be disappointed with Roy if he decided to pull his diva routine.

  4. Roy has never played like a man. Good riddence to bad rubbish.
