The San Jose Sharks have acquired Raffi Torres from the Phoenix Coyotes for a third round pick in 2013.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Sharks have found a replacement for the departed Ryane Clowe’s toughness and playoff experience. Sharks GM Doug Wilson said he wasn’t giving up on the playoffs. This move confirms it. Torres is a UFA this summer, isn’t expected to be re-signed, and the Coyotes with this move appear to be admitting they won’t make the playoffs.

As a sharks fan I hate this move. I will never forget what he did to michalek in the playoffs when he was with Edmonton. I have had no problems with DW’s moves but I really don’t like this. It would be like the aves trading for bertuzzi

Considering the Sharks also acquired Jody Shelley after he sucker punched Brad Stuart then proceeded to pummel the stunned Stuart giving him a concussion and knocking out of action for a few weeks – the fans seemed to be OK w Shelley for the few years he played in SJ despite the fact he lost more then his share of fights and couldn’t play hockey worth spit – I think a few months of Torres (who also nailed/injured JT in 2010 Conf Finals vs the Canucks) is OK and I for one won’t mind him hurting other teams players for once. Besides the Sharks picked up Hannan to cover the inevitable Penalties Torres will get.
