Sharks re-sign Vlasic.

Vlasic re-signs long-term with Sharks.

Louis-Andre Lariviere of TVA Sports reports the San Jose Sharks have re-signed defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic to a five-year contract extension. Financial terms have yet to be reported.

**Update** Lariviere reports it’s for $21 million, or $4.2 million per season annual average cap hit, which is a nice raise over the $3.1 million per he earned under his current deal, which has one season remaining, and would’ve taken him up to UFA status.

  1. He’s a solid young defenseman but that’s too much for what he brings. meh, yet another reason it’s bad to be a sharks fan.

  2. ^^couldnt disagree more. led the team in blocked shots, responsible in both zones and is never a liability. he’s a plus player for plus/minus and doesnt take many penalties. i know he doesnt produce like a weber or suter but he isnt making over 7 mil a season either

  3. I tell you what obviously I love the pens, and I said the same thing about scuderi when he got all that money from the kings. Smart defensively and not fancy at all, but boy have we really really missed him since he left. He would be a huge upgrade over Martin and for less money

  4. Don’t get me started on Paul Martin…the worst signing Shero has made. Trade him to Nashville for a bag of pucks and some tape.

  5. exactly. scuderi is a fine comparison. scuderi is making 3.4 a season so even if you add 10% for contract escalation between scuderi’s signing and vlasic’s the sharks still overpaid by almost half a million. and let’s not forget that most would have said that the kings overpaid scuderi.

i guess half a million isn’t that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, and vlasic is younger but to me it’s another example of the mismanagement of assets by wilson and staff.
