Sunday NHL Rumor Roundup (Part One) – March 31, 2013.

Ryane Clowe could be trade very soon,  the latest on the Sabres, Capitals, and Red Wings, and how the Martin St. Louis trade rumors got started.

Sharks about to trade Ryane Clowe?

Sharks about to trade Ryane Clowe?

CSN BAY AREA: Kevin Kurz reports the San Jose Sharks may be moving closer to trading winger Ryane Clowe. A source claimed the Sharks have approached Clowe’s agent about waiving his no-trade clause, and a trade could happen as early as today. Kurz believes Boston, Montreal and the NY Rangers are the likely destinations.

CSNNE.COM: Joe Haggerty reports the Bruins have been “heavily scouting” the Sharks over the past week, while the Sharks eastern scout John Ferguson Jr has been tracking the Bruins over the past couple of games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Of the three clubs, the Bruins are in my opinion the likely destination. They’ve been scouting the Sharks for weeks. The Rangers could pursue Clowe, but I’m not sure if they’re as motivated a buyer as the Bruins right now. The Canadiens could get in on it, but they really don’t need much, and I doubt GM Marc Bergevin is willing to give up a first round pick (part of the rumored asking price) for a rental player like Clowe.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: John Vogl reports the recent comments by Sabres GM Darcy Regier that he’s open to listening to trade offers for any and all Sabres players aren’t being taken by Ryan Miller as an indication of a roster overhaul heading toward the trade deadline. Miller also said a recent report claiming he submitted a list of eight teams to management to which he will not accept a trade is false.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Regier dealt pending UFA blueliner Jordan Leopold yesterday to the Blues, and he’ll obviously try to move pending UFAs Robyn Regehr and Jochen Hecht. I believe his comments signals he’s willing to listen to offers, but I don’t believe he’ll start blowing up his roster this week. It doesn’t hurt to field offers for players like Miller now, in order to gauge what their market value could be this summer.

CSNWASHINGTON.COM: Chuck Gormley reports he’s in no hurry to shop backup goalie Michal Neuvirth at the trade deadline.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Helene St. James reports Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland isn’t interested in acquiring playoff rental players at the deadline, nor does he wants to part with his first round pick. She believes the Wings are interested in Calgary’s Jay Bouwmeester but might not like the asking price.

TAMPA BAY TIMES: Damien Cristodero offers up a mea culpa for a recent column in which he mused over the possibility of the Lightning trading Martin St. Louis, which subsequently formed the basis for groundless trade speculation about the veteran winger.  GM Steve Yzerman recently rejected the rumors.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Cristodero was very clear in his original column he was merely speculating when he wondered if Yzerman would consider the notion of asking St. Louis to waive his no-trade clause. In rejecting the idea of the Bolts shopping St. Louis, I frequently reminded readers on this site (and in my column) Cristodero was just musing out loud. Unfortunately, some folks simply saw the headline, interpreted it as Yzerman shopping St. Louis without fully reading the story, and it blew up into “Martin St. Louis is available and could be headed to Boston/New York/Philadelphia”.   Hopefully, nobody holds this against Cristodero, who (along with the Tampa Tribune’s Erik Erlendsson) does an excellent job covering the Lightning.

  1. Regarding Clowe: bad shoulder and zero goals … yeah, what a difference maker he will be …

  2. I would like to see Steve Ott from BUF head to CHI. He’s the type of 3rd line center we are looking for, unfortunately he has an expensive contract so I would settle for Hecht. He’s got decent size and good at faceoffs. I wouldnt give up to much for him tho, maybe a 3rd round pick. Riberio would be a good pick up to jump into the number 2 slot and move Bolland to the 3rd spot but im sure the asking price is to high.

    • Can’t see the Sabres letting Ott go, he is everything they need and desire in a Captain. On the other hand, Pommer or Stafford would be a good addition to Chicago.

      • No, need someone who is a free agent unless salary goes back the other way. Will be to close to the cap next season.

  3. I can see boston over paying for clowe.since they lost out on iginla they probably are willing to over pay so they do not loose out again. Cant see why NYR would be interested, considering they would half to part with a first or a good roster player, and they way they are playing, it does not even look like they will be in the playoffs.

Bruins are just mad, they won’t won the CUP now that we have loaded up!!!!

    • Wont WON the cup!!!!!!!!!! That say’s it all right there……. And Vancouver was going to win 4 straight from the Bruins. When the chips are down the Bruins play their best. Iginla was a much better fit in Boston than he will be with the Pen’s, his mistake. Loaded up? i’m sorry did you get another Crosby and /or Malkin. No you didn’t, Morrow wont make any difference since he wont even be able to keep up with the rest of the team and Iginla we will see. not any where as good as when the Pen’s got Hossa and how did that work out… Games are played for a reason. All looks great for the Pens NOW, not so much for the B’s, lets just wait and see though.

    • Add 2, lose 1 – the lord giveth and taketh away. Don’t know what the scoop is on Sid, but taking a puck to the mouth which resulted in Oral Surgery – mustn’t be that good when you are recovering from a concussion. So, 4ever – I wouldn’t count my chicks before they hatch

    • Yeah and the 8th seed Kings were the favorite last year.
Playoffs are physical and played much different than regular season games.
Crosby and Malkin will be hammered and they will be knocked out early.
      I bet Toronto goes further.

      • As much I would like the Leafs to go further than the Pens, i don’t believe it!
And Crosby and Malkin will be hammered around? Really? Malkin? Even Crosby doesn’t get hammered around! And with guys like Orpik, Engelland, Glass, Bortuzzo, Adams they weren’t a soft team in the first place. And with the addition of Murray, Morrow and Iginla the got thougher to play!

  5. I would like to see the habs grab regehr and ott/Hecht if possible. Would be great for bottom line depth as long as the cost isn’t crazy.
