Winnipeg got hosed unless they know something about Laine that no other team know
Stats shows that Laine is head and shoulders above PLD and throwing Rosvoick makes no sense
There is only one complete player in this trade, and Winnipeg acquired him.

Boone Jenner just became the league’s highest scoring center, Seth Jones its most overworked defenseman, and John Tortorella its most frustrated coach.
Well, Laine and Roslovic can look forward to learning to block shots.
No matter, could we have a few more of these blockbuster deals? They are fun to watch unfold.
I think Laine’s a superstar talent. If he gets hot, Columbus could rocket up the standings, despite the guy behind the bench.

Wow
There was no way I would have guessed that Chevy would lose in the detail…. and as at now… I think he did
BOTH Laine and Roslovic for PDL (the ‘22 3rd rounder is basically zip) AND Chevy had to retain Salary…. head scratcher
I had no idea re PLD’s father being in Jets org (with Moose) so added attraction for PLD
I get that Jets needed the 2C…. but gave up a possible future perennial 40 goal player
Torts better be on his best behaviour …. wrt Laine
He pulls another PLD move on Laine when he has a down game and getting an extension with Laine might be difficult… they are also open to an Offer Sheet if they don’t get him extended
4 first rounders for a big 23 year old (come summer) 40 goal scorer, would be worth it IMHO
Why is it the the Jets have had as many players want out that the BJs have over the past several years, yet in Winnipeg it’s the players that are considered the problem, yet in Columbus is it considered the coach is the issue????
Columbus has done more with less talent than the Jets have over that period. In fact the Jets have had a bushel of talent pass through their ranks, yet very little to no talk about coaching being an issue for the players who have asked for out.
FYI, I believe Roslovic showed more character than Dubios just by sitting out, rather than signing & then dogging it & basicly pssing all over your teammates in the process.

$5, says Laine gets moved to a California team before the deadline.
Winnipeg is super deep at pivot with this move.
Gonna be ridiculous trying to generate offense against that crew come playoff time.
Great deal by Chevy.

So pld and laine have about commiserate value. Who knew?
Well it went down and I am surprised that Jarmo got Roslovic as well. Hot takes are often of pretty limited value but I’ll give it a shot. Given how difficult it has been for CBJ to score goals, it is obvious great to obtain an elite goal scorer like Laine. They apparently believe Roslovic can play C (many who watched him play disagree). The crux of the deal will be if they can sign Laine long term and their young C truly develop. I am less concerned about the Torts effect as the whispers here are this is his last season. A clear challenge moving forward is CBJ will be relying on some combination of Domi, Texier, and Roslovic to be their top 2 C. If they develop and click w/ Laine, Bjorkstrand, Atkinson this could be brilliant. If they don’t CBJ is back to lacking the depth down the middle to seriously contend. While the absence of PLD leaves us without a strong 1C again….Overall, I like the deal…it was a difficult spot to be in and Jarmo pulled out reat value….it’s exciting for CBJ fans and the city.

Think your right BBB, Dubois point totals go up. Especially if he gets 1st PP time.
Not sure he has played with that kind of talent before. I like this team, if they can defend with that D.
They have some cap space this off season, I think Chevvy added a key piece long term to make this team a contender if they can add a quality D man with that $$.
I would be happy if I was a Jets fan. Strong up the middle, good tender.

This deal is odd to say the least, CBJ gets a #3 or #4 centre to replace their #1 and a high maintenance generational scorer ending his contract.
Perfect for a vociferous coach who demands physical sacrifice,
The Jets get a centre who slots in as a #2 or maybe #3 with their depth, and lose a pure scorer, getting no help for their D.
How did either team fill any of their needs?

That’s crazy. Pld is a 1 or 2 C on just about every team in league.
He almost gas same point totals as. Laine just a little short This is a win for both sides A true hockey trade Even if. Laine doesn’t work out they will get boat load in the off season

I have never been a fan of Laine. Though Lyle is correct Jets fans love him. Living here in Winnipeg the last 5 years I have come to learn that. Comparisons to Ovechkin. Though Laine to me has always been way to one dimensional. A goal scoring talent but he hasn’t shown to me he is a perrenial 40 goal scorer. I don’t see him much better than the Hoffman’s of the league and he will ask for 10 million. I was the guy surprised that Hoffman’s market value would of been 6 million so you can tell where I stand on that contract demand of Laine’s if made.
Soft on his stick I seen time and time again Laine easily stick checked by the opposition and he really has zero ability to dig a puck out of a corner.
But having said that he does have a scoring ability above average.
Dubois is a complete player. Other teams were after him so Winnipeg had to pay to get him. Though Dubois doesn’t carry the same star Quality Laine seems to (who I don’t believe deserves it) He will play all 200 feat of the ice hard.
Roslovic has stated he views himself as a centre. Jets always looked for a centre. for the last 3 or 4 years. So he must be lacking in something if the Jets felt he couldn’t fill the role.
the jets retaining salary was the biggest surprise to me in this deal beyond it actually happening.
In the end. There is no garauntee Laine will remain in Columbus. No garauntee he can handle Torts, or Torts Laine. Dubois is signed for longer and makes Winnipeg really strong down the middle.
I think Winnipeg did just fine in this deal. Won’t have to worry about finding 10 million dollars to sign Dubois freeing up money to hunt for D.

Here’s what Adam Gretz, a writer for Pro Hockey Talk on NBC Sports, had to say about the trade and whether it made the Jets a better team:
“…the answer might come down to…what you value more in a player: A top-line center that excels at even-strength and can drive play, or a goal-scoring finisher that excels on the power play.”
He backed up his conclusion with a chart showing that Dubois has been a more productive player than Laine at 5-on-5 for the last 3 years. Here’s what Adam Gretz, a writer for Pro Hockey Talk on NBC Sports, had to say about the trade and whether it made the Jets a better team:

It was just as valid when I read it the 2nd and 3rd time!
Laine is a 30 goal scorer who touched 40 once. Calling him a 40 goal scorer is like calling Teemu a 70 goal scorer.
For comparison, Mike Bossy was a legitimate goal scorer.

Mark Napier was drafted #10 by one of the shrewdest GM’s in the NHL while out of his own backyard, #15 was Mike Bossy, probably the purest goal scorer of all time.
