The latest on Evander Kane’s negotiations with the Jets, Flames coach Bob Hartley preparing for upcoming season in spite of lockout fears, and the Maple Leafs dressing room will get a makeover.
WINNIPEG SUN: Ken Wiebe suggests Jets fans who are nervous over the status of winger Evander Kane’s contract talks with the Jets should relax, pointing out some negotiations take longer than others. Wiebe reminds everyone defenseman Zach Bogosian didn’t re-sign last year until two days prior to the start of training camp.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I recall Bogosian’s contract talks also gave rise to some BS trade rumors prior to his eventual re-signing. I’ve been saying the same thing (some negotiations take longer than others) regarding Kane, P.K. Subban and other notable unsigned RFAs for weeks. Of course, that won’t stop some nervous nellies from believing the worst, and some rumormongers from dreaming up trade scenarios to feed off that fear. If Kane remains unsigned when training camp starts (assuming there’s no lockout and it begins on time), that would be cause for concern, and if he missed the start of the season, then it’s time to worry.
CANOE.CA: Despite concerns over another possible NHL lockout, Calgary Flames coach Bob Hartley is pressing on with his preparations for the upcoming season.
TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs dressing room will be getting a makeover.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: If there’s a lockout, it’ll at least provide them more time to upgrade that dressing room.
