The latest on Zach Parise, plus updates on the Sharks,Blackhawks and Ducks.
NJ.COM/NORTHJERSEY.COM: reports New Jersey Devils captain and pending UFA Zach Parise not only stated his hope of re-signing with the club, but if he were to hit the open market, there was “no way” he’d sign with the arch-rival NY Rangers. Parise added there’d been no contract talks between his agents and GM Lou Lamoriello during the season, but added he expected talks could begin soon.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: It was widely assumed Parise would test this summer’s UFA market, and the Rangers could be a potential destination. While he made no guarantee he wouldn’t test the market, it’s obvious the Rangers won’t be among the potential destinations if he does. Parise sounds like he wants to remain with the Devils, and now it’s up to his agents and GM Lou Lamoriello to work out a new deal. We’ll find out by July 1if there’s a deal to be made or not.
CSNBAYAREA.COM: Kevin Kurz doubts the San Jose Sharks recent acquisition of Brad Stuart means they will try to move veteran blueliner Dan Boyle, believing instead Douglas Murray, who had one year at $2.5 million left on his contract, could become the odd man out due to his lack of foot speed.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hat tip to GJ Berg for the link. If the Sharks do decide to shop Murray, there’d be no shortage of interest from teams seeking a physical presence on their blueline.
CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Chris Kuc reports it’s unlikely the Blackhawks look to replace goaltender Corey Crawford, preferring instead to improve the team in front of him, particularly on the blueline and at center.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Blackhawks have been linked to Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks, but they appear committed to Crawford and backup Ray Emery, whom they re-signed for another season earlier this year.
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER’s Eric Stephens recently reported via Twitter the Anaheim Ducks won’t be re-signing pending UFAs Jason Blake and Niklas Hagman.
