Wednesday Afternoon NHL Rumor Update – June 13, 2012.

The latest on Zach Parise, plus updates on the Sharks,Blackhawks and Ducks.

Parise says he won't join Rangers as a UFA.

NJ.COM/NORTHJERSEY.COM: reports New Jersey Devils captain and pending UFA Zach Parise not only stated his hope of re-signing with the club, but if he were to hit the open market, there was “no way” he’d sign with the arch-rival NY Rangers. Parise added there’d been no contract talks between his agents and GM Lou Lamoriello during the season, but added he expected talks could begin soon.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It was widely assumed Parise would test this summer’s UFA market, and the Rangers could be a potential destination. While he made no guarantee he wouldn’t test the market, it’s obvious the Rangers won’t be among the potential destinations if he does. Parise sounds like he wants to remain with the Devils, and now it’s up to his agents and GM Lou Lamoriello to work out a new deal. We’ll find out by July 1if there’s a deal to be made or not.

CSNBAYAREA.COM: Kevin Kurz doubts the San Jose Sharks recent acquisition of Brad Stuart means they will try to move veteran blueliner Dan Boyle, believing instead Douglas Murray, who had one year at $2.5 million left on his contract, could become the odd man out due to his lack of foot speed.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hat tip to GJ Berg for the link. If the Sharks do decide to shop Murray, there’d be no shortage of interest from teams seeking a physical presence on their blueline.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE:  Chris Kuc reports it’s unlikely the Blackhawks look to replace goaltender Corey Crawford, preferring instead to improve the team in front of him, particularly on the blueline and at center.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Blackhawks have been linked to Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks, but they appear committed to Crawford and backup Ray Emery, whom they re-signed for another season earlier this year.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER’s Eric Stephens recently reported via Twitter the Anaheim Ducks won’t be re-signing pending UFAs Jason Blake and Niklas Hagman.

  1. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Zach Parise stayed in NJ, but if he does hit the free agent market, I wouldn’t be so fast to rule out the Rangers.

Think of it this way… “No way” equates to “More money.”

Here would be Sather’s quote if Parise signed a deal, “I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.”

    • I’ll take Parise on his word and assume there is now way in hell he will be in a Ranger uniform.

  2. Torts scares him, Hahahahaha!

    • I think he knows it requires to be some kind of dirtbag to go from nj to ny.

Look how everyone who did it was treated in Jersey

  3. I never thought the Sharks would shop Boyle – even though he is 35 he knows the game, is skilled, scores an avg. of 50 points a season, makes good decisions and has leadership. On the other hand, Murray is slow and more of a physical presence – except it really doesn’t help you out if he is late to the play. Stuart is a good, steady d-man and can help mentor the younger players. I think no resigning Vandermeer and White was a good move and maybe the Sharks can trade Murray for someone like Fransen. –

    • Would Boyle command a Couterier(sp?), a Del Zotto and a pick, straight up for Schenn? Not gauging a trade but offering possible trade partners for needs. Here’s a talker: Crosby and Martin for Boyle, Couture, the rights to Galiardi, this years first and a conditional 2nd pick next year

      • Ouch, horrible trade for the Pens … but if you take the emotion out of it, Crosby should be the one to go, I’d keep Malkin & Staal … Mario will never let Sid go so forget it but I’d package Sid, Fleury, Martin, Tangradi & Kennedy to Mtl for Paciorrety, Price, Subban, White & 3rd overall … that deal would make it easier to watch Subban slew-foot other players besides Pittsburgh penguins, which he is fond of doing …

    • I’d like to see Boyle shopped, he’s not going to beocme more valuable as time passes. He seemed to lose a step last year and he’s still got one of the bigger paychecks. Murray needs to go to one of those “power skating” schools, if he could pick up his feet a bit faster….. Clearing out White and Vandemeer opens up at least one spot (rarely did both play on defense in the same game), so Stuart fits in without moving anyone else. Remember, someone always gets hurt during the season.

  4. Maybe I missed something in the interview, but from what I heard, when Parise was asked if he would play for the Rangers he stated “NO” “You won’t get any headlines out of me!” To me that sounds like he simply isn’t answering the question not stating No, he won’t play for the Rangers? Again though, maybe I missed something that was said later. His comment that he is only 48 hours removed from a heart-breaking loss and hasn’t thought about it to me just verified he was actually not answering “No” to the question of whether he would play for the rangers, and simply stating “No” he would not be answering any questions on potential destinations. The best part about the interview is how he says they won’t get any headlines from him and it instantly became a headline!

    • That’s what I thought as well when I first read it on TSN.

  5. I can see Parise staying with the Devils, but obviously he could test the FA market as well. As far as him going to the Rangers, I beleive him. He wouldnt be a good fit in NY anyway. Too many guys already want the puck and want to be the “clutch” or “go to” player on the team. Plus the Rangers wouldnt be able to keep the core players together if they land Parise in the long run.

To be honest, we should worry more about the new CBA than rumors right now. ESPN said today, its almost certain the owners will lock out the players this September, and the NHL season will again be at risk. They said something that the players make 57% of the revenue, which is alot higher than the NBA and NFL. The owners want those long term contracts vanquished.

    • “He wouldnt be a good fit in NY anyway. Too many guys already want the puck and want to be the “clutch” or “go to” player on the team.”

      – such as?

  6. I think the Pens should trade Sid as well. Malkin and Staal seem to play 10x better when he isnt in the lineup. What about this deal

    Ana gets:

    Pens get
    Rights for Justin Shultz
    2nd round pick

  7. I’d love to see Bryan Murray package Robin Lehner and his first round pick for some more upfront help. Bobby Ryan? Pass on Radulov, not the greatest luck in Ottawa with Russians. Dan Boyle could come back to Ottawa (everyone comes back here eventually) as he’s from here, and with Murray more or less confirming that Kuba is done, another vet back there would be welcomed with all the kids.
