SPECTOR’S NOTE: Can’t understand why the Avalanche would make this deal. While Briere did have a good playoff with the Canadiens, he was reduced to fourth-line duty because, quite frankly, at 36 Briere’s no longer a top-six forward.

Parenteau no longer fit into the Avs system plus he was limited by injuries to 55 games, but at 31 he’s still a productive player. He managed 43 points in 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign and 67 points in 80 games two years ago with the Islanders.

Canadiens GM Marc Bergervin is facing criticism over his recent handling of Josh Gorges (more on that later in the rumors section) but this trade should help redeem him in the eyes of Habs fans. This one’s a win for the Habs.
