The Vancouver Canucks have dealt the 85th overall pick they received from Anaheim to the New York Rangers for winger Derek Dorsett.

Rangers trade Derek Dorsett to the Canucks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: In the third trade of a very busy afternoon for Canucks GM Jim Benning, he adds an experienced, gritty forward in Dorsett.

The 27-year-old  is a physical agitator who can play any forward position. He played a regular shift in every playoff game for the Rangers this spring, so he has more value than just his willingness to drop the gloves. Dorsett has a year remaining on his current deal at $1.63 million.

As for the Rangers, this is an obvious salary dump, freeing up some more space to re-sign or replace some key players, including Mats Zuccarello, Anton Stralman, Chris Kreider and Derick Brassard.
