The Anaheim Ducks traded goaltender Viktor Fasth to the Edmonton Oilers and have acquired defenseman Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I think Ducks GM Bob Murray forgot that tomorrow is the NHL trade deadline. He’s certainly getting the jump on business today, having also dealt Dustin Penner to the Capitals. The return for Robidas is the fourth-round pick they acquired from the Capitals in the Penner deal.  Robidas is still recovering from a broken leg but is expected to soon return to action. He’ll be a good pickup, providing experience and all-round blueline skills

As for the Oilers, they wasted little time replacing Ilya Bryzgalov, and this move can be considered an upgrade. This move cost them a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a third rounder in 2015. Fasth has a strong performance last season but was sidelined by injury for most of this season. He and Ben Scrivens can jockey for the starter’s role this season and next, which should significantly improve the Oilers’ goaltending. With promising Frederik Andersen and John Gibson in the Ducks goalie pipeline there was no room for Fasth. This move could also mean the Ducks intend to re-sign Jonas Hiller.
