Various sources report the Philadelphia Flyers have acquired Brian Boucher from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for minor league center Luke Pither.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: So, the very first trade under the new CBA is made by the Flyers, for a goalie, but not the blockbuster move they were rumored to make for Roberto Luongo. It appears Flyers management will stick with Ilya Bryzgalov as their starter and bring back former Flyer Boucher to back him up. Not a surprise the Hurricanes shopped Boucher, as they reportedly could sign UFA Dan Ellis to a one-year, two-way contract, plus also have Justin Peters in their system.

**UPDATE** CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio suggested Boucher is likely an insurance pickup and could be headed to the AHL this season. So, this move won’t put an end to the “Luongo-to-Philly” rumors after all…
