In today’s medley of notable posts from the NHL blogosphere: The Devils may be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy…The Islanders “risers” and “fallers” through ten games…The Blue Jackets must make a change…Is it wrong for the Blues to embrace the Cardinals?…Is there another option for the Flames besides Kyle Turris?…James van Riemsdyk off to a poor start…A look back at the NHL week that was.

PUCK DADDY: Greg Wyshynski on the New Jersey Devils debt woes, and why they may be close to bankruptcy.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: In the immortal words of that wise cartoon sage Scooby Doo: “Ruh-roh!” It’s one thing for the league to have Sun Belt franchises struggling, but when they’re in the same vicinity as NHL headquarters, that’s another matter, especially for a franchise which, not that long ago, was among the league’s elite.

LIGHTHOUSE HOCKEY: A look at the Islanders whose stock is rising or falling through their first ten games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I was expecting the NY Islanders to be where the Maple Leafs and Senators currently are in the Eastern standings. So far, I’m disappointed with what I’ve seen.

THE CANNON: Andy Newman states the obvious: a change is needed for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The problem, of course, is figuring out which is the right one to save this sinking ship before it slips beneath the waves, because they’re that close to that situation. Fire the GM? The Head coach? Blow up the roster? Trade RJ Umberger and Derick Brassard? Do you dare move Rick Nash?  Right now, one gets the sense of a franchise paralyzed by panic and uncertainty.

ST. LOUIS GAME TIME: Brad Lee believes the Blues embracing the World Series champion Cardinals smacks of desperation.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Perhaps, but when your team (which, like the Isles, I fully expected to charge strong from the gate this season) is giving the St. Louis fans little to cheer about, you grab whatever you can. Maybe they’re hoping the Cardinals winning magic will rub off on ’em?

MATCHSTICKS AND GASOLINE: ArikJames asks if there’s a better trade option out there for the Flames besides Phoenix Coyotes holdout center Kyle Turris, and suggests Edmonton’s Sam Gagner.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Only problem with that is the Oilers almost certainly won’t ship Gagner directly to their most hated rival, so another team would have to get involved. As for other options, if they’re out there, they’re few and far between. Turris could be the best right now for Feaster to find.

Checking into the Flyers "Chateau Bow-wow".

BACKHAND SHELF: Justin Bourne with the headline of the year: “James van Riemsdyk: Everything is Coming Up Doghouse”.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not only is this headline laugh out loud funny, but also nicely encapsulates van Riemsdyk’s performance thus far this season. Well played, Mr. Bourne!

GRANTLAND.COM: Katie Baker once again presents the highs and lows of another NHL week that was.
