Could Alex Tanguay join the Lightning? Can Matt Smaby and the Bolts avoid arbitration?

TBO.COM: Erik Erlendsson reported yesterday there is interest from the Lightning in UFA winger Alex Tanguay but whether or not its reciprocated is another story. Some reports claim Tanguay is seeking $5 million per season and if he's seeking that much he won't get it from the Lightning. GM Brian Lawton however would like to add one more top-six forward. If Tanguay were willing to accept a  $2.5 million contract for a season or two the Lightning would love to add him.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: Several teams would love to add Tanguay if he were willing to accept $2.5 million per season. Contract issues (salary and term) along with the status of his recently repaired left shoulder and the perception he's a soft player are likely why he's still available in the UFA market.

Erlendsson also reports Lawton has made some progress in contract talks with defenseman Matt Smaby, who is slated for salary arbitration July 28th. He's seeking a one-way contract and both sides appear optimistic about heading in the right direction and avoiding arbitration.
