The Red Wings scary goaltending situation and an update on Michael Nylander.
CBC.CA: Scott Morrison yesterday wondered if the Detroit Red Wings' goaltending was good enough to get them into the playoffs, noting the bloated goals-against averages of Chris Osgood (3.41) and Jimmy Howard (3.52). Morrison suggests this could be the season GM Ken Holland is forced to make a move in goal although he points out Holland will be patient and give Howard time to establish himself and for Osgood to retain his form.SPECTOR'S NOTE: As long as the Wings remain in the playoff hunt I suspect Holland will give Osgood and Howard more time. Don't buy into the internet rumors of Maple Leafs' Vesa Toskala being a potential target. His poor play and $4 million salary rules doesn't make him an attractive commodity for any team. And no, Carey Price isn't being offered to the Red Wings. Potential trade options should Holland decide to go shopping for a goaltender include Minnesota's Josh Harding and the Islanders' Martin Biron once Rick DiPietro returns to action.
WASHINGTON POST: Tarik El-Bashir reports Capitals center Michael Nylander has played his final game with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. His conditioning stint ends on Tuesday.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Now we sit back and wait to see if his play enticed a KHL team into taking him on as a "loaner". Don't expect him to be traded.
