David Legwand inks a 2-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.

The Ottawa Senators have signed center David Legwand to a two-year, $6 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This is a short-term move to fill the gap at center left from Jason Spezza’s departure via trade. Expect Legwand to center the second line. He had 51 points last season, but struggled with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2014 playoffs. Still, he’ll play that two-way style Senators coach Paul MacLean prefers.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed former Penguins forward Brian Gibbons to a one-year, tw0-way deal.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If you don’t remember Gibbons or what the Blue Jackets see in him, let this short-handed goal in this year’s Penguins-Blue Jackets playoff series serve as a reminder.

The St. Louis Blues have signed former Sharks winger John McCarthy to a one-year, $600K contract.
