GRANTLAND: Katie Baker with her NHL week in review, including a look back at some poor predictions. Don’t feel bad, Katie, everyone makes their share. Remember, predictions are for gypsies!
RANT SPORTS: Jeff Zeffer wonders if Jeff Carter would be a good fit with the Maple Leafs. The player, yes. The contract? No.
BLOG DUDES: Steven Todd Ives on why Ryan Suter won’t be dealt by the Predators.
BLUESHIRT BANTER: A look at some suggested trade targets for the NY Rangers. Dustin Penner? Um, no…
DEFENDING BIG D: Brandon Worley on why the Dallas Stars still have a ways to go on the road to improvement.
BACKHAND SHELF: Ellen Etchingham on why sometimes it’s best if general managers do nothing. Sometimes, the best trades are none at all.
PUCK DADDY: Ryan Lambert believes Pierre McGuire couldn’t possibly do a worse job than Pierre Gauthier as Canadiens GM.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Which is fine, if the goal here is to hire someone who can’t possibly be worse than his predecessor. The goal, however, is to hire the best possible person for the job. If the Canadiens do replace Gauthier as GM this summer, the last person they should hire is an entertaining hockey analyst who hasn’t held an NHL management role in nearly 20 years. Ask the Tampa Bay Lightning how well it worked for them hiring a hockey analyst as head coach who hadn’t been in the NHL coaching ranks in fifteen years.
DEADSPIN: Former NHL goaltender Clint Malarchuk is one tough hombre, considering he’s survived getting this throat slashed with a skate blade and shooting himself in the head. With a first name like “Clint”, you’d expect nothing less than toughness, especially as he battles obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. Check out this story, it’s a worthwhile read.
