The Flames now must hang onto playoff berth…Khabibulin sidelined…Addition of David Booth right one for Canucks…Leafs unconcerned by Connolly’s low production…Jets playoff hopes…Senators shut out Islanders…Andrei Markov to travel with Habs.
CALGARY SUN: Now that the Flames hold a playoff berth, the trick now is to hang onto it.
EDMONTON SUN: Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin is out a week with a groin strain.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Oilers were shopping him, that could seriously hurt his market value, given his injury history.
VANCOUVER PROVINCE: The Canucks made the right move adding David Booth.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Agreed, he’s had to struggle through injuries and post-concussion, but with 22 points in 33 games, he’s a good addition to the Canucks.
TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs aren’t concerned over Tim Connolly’s lack of production, earning praise from coach Ron Wilson, particularly for his penalty-killing.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Leafs knew what they were getting when they signed Connolly: a talented center with an injury history. While his offensive production isn’t worth what they’re paying him, his contributions elsewhere has made him a good depth addition at center.
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: The Jets recent improvement has them back in playoff contention, exciting players and fans alike.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Making the playoffs would be the cherry on the sundae for Jets fans.
OTTAWA CITIZEN: The Senators rolled to an easy 6-0 victory over the NY Islanders, led by Erik Karlsson (2 goals, 2 assists) and Jason Spezza (2 goals).
RDS.CA: Several Canadiens are trying to recover from injuries, including Andrei Markov and Travis Moen. Markov will travel with the team this week, but isn’t expected to play.
