Canucks snap Red Wings 23-game home win streak…Craig Anderson cuts hand, out indefinitely…Flames GM unhappy over team’s recent loss…Jets move into tie for first in Southeast Division…Leafs fading fast…Devan Dubnyk backstops Oilers to shutout over Flyers…Canadiens woeful home record.
VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Alex Burrows scored the winner in a shootout as the Canucks downed the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 to snap the latter’s 23-game home winning streak.
OTTAWA CITIZEN: Senators goalie Craig Anderson cut his right hand while preparing a meal, and is out indefinitely.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Citizen reports Anderson could be out up to two weeks, while the Ottawa Sun reported up to eight weeks. Either way, this could be prospect Robin Lehner’s time to shine. He, or Alex Auld, had better shine, because if Anderson’s out beyond two weeks, it could prove a real blow to the Senators’ playoff hopes.
CALGARY HERALD: Flames GM Jay Feaster wasn’t pleased with his club’s shootout loss to the Coyotes, hinting at roster changes if things didn’t improve by Monday.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’ll have more on this later today in my Rumors section, but the consensus amongst the Calgary media is Feaster is uttering empty threats.
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: The Jets 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning has put them into a tie with Florida for first in the Southeast Division and a three way tie with the Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs for the final playoff spot in the Conference.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: That could be temporary as the Leafs and Panthers have games in hand, but there’s no denying the Jets have played their way of late back into the playoff picture.
TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs continue to struggle, falling 2-1 to the San Jose Sharks.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Leafs have lost seven of their last eight games (1-6-1), and are in danger of falling completely out of the playoff picture if they don’t improve soon.
EDMONTON SUN: Devan Dubnyk made 35 saves as the Oilers blanked the Philadelphia Flyers 2-0.
MONTREAL GAZETTE: The Canadiens have the worst home record in the Eastern Conference.
