Dustin Byfuglien heading to trial over boating incident….Miikka Kiprusoff looked up to Mike Vernon….Expecting Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul to regain their scoring touch…A positive night for Oilers Ryan Whitney…Senators top two scorers held pointless in four games…Canadiens coach blames refs for team blowing yet another lead…Canucks “schooled” by Red Wings.

Byfuglien headed to court over boating incident last summer.

WINNIPEG SUN: Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien will be going to trial on charges of boating while intoxicated in Minnesota last summer, which if convicted could have implications for his ability to travel between Canada and the United States.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I daresay Byfuglien, if convicted, will received a hefty fine, perhaps placement in a drug/alcohol program, but I doubt his ability to travel will be hampered, as it would adversely affect his ability to earn a living.

CALGARY SUN: Miikka Kiprusoff, who’s currently tied with Mike Vernon for most games played by a Flames goalie, looked up to Vernon early in his career.

EDMONTON SUN: Oft-injured Oilers defenseman Ryan Whitney had a notable night of his own during Sam Gagner’s 8-point performance against Chicago last night, scoring his first goal of the season and his first since Boxing Day, 2010.

TORONTO SUN: Maple Leafs scorers Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul have cooled over their past ten games, but it’s expected they’ll regain their scoring ways.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators top scorers Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza have gone scoreless in four games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: One reason for their recent offensive decline is rival teams are keying on them more often than earlier in the season.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens coach Randy Cunneyworth blamed the officiating for his team’s 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Of course, if the Canadiens knew how to play with a lead this season (they led 3-1 at one point in this game), a couple of missed calls by the refs wouldn’t have resulted in the Devils potting the game-winning goal. Remember what former Hab Mike Cammalleri said about the culture of losing which had permeated the Habs roster this season? He was right.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: The Canucks get “schooled” by the Detroit Red Wings in a 4-3 shootout loss.
