Updates on Jordan Eberle, David Booth, Erik Cole, Jiri Hudler, Antti Miettinen, Cody Franson and Peter Regin.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers have named Jordan Eberle and Nick Schultz as “alternate” captains. Shawn Horcoff remains team captain.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Oilers should buy out Horcoff this summer, my guess is Eberle could take over the captaincy.

Booth's injury further depletes Canucks second line.

Booth’s injury further depletes Canucks second line.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Canucks winger David Booth will be sidelined four-six weeks to a groin injury, raising concerns over the club’s second line depth. Center Ryan Kesler remains sidelined by off-season surgeries.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s been suggested Booth’s injury could hasten a Roberto Luongo trade, but that doesn’t appear likely.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Erik Cole is hopeful he, Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais can continue the strong chemistry they had last season. Cole also sidestepped questions regarding his recent comments suggesting he might retire at season’s end because of the new CBA.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As one Montreal reporter recently observed, Cole isn’t going to walk away from $9 million.

CALGARY HERALD: Jiri Hudler returned to  the Czech Republic to be with his ailing father, who passed away on Monday.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: My condolences to Hudler and his family.

WINNIPEG SUN: Jets forward Antti Miettinen has been sidelined indefinitely by an upper body injury.

TORONTO SUN: Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Franson realizes he must improve his physical play if he hopes to continue his NHL career.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators center Peter Regin is looking forward to his season after injury shortened his ’11-’12 campaign.
