Canadiens re-sign Lars Eller to a four-year deal.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: The Canadiens avoided arbitration with forward Lars Eller yesterday, re-signing him to a four-year, $14 million contract. Eller was slated for an arbitration hearing today.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’m a little surprised by this contract, as it’s higher than the $3.1 million Eller reportedly sought. I’m assuming this means Eller will be playing a larger role with the Habs starting this season. About time, too, as he was bounced around the lineup too much last season.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: After opting not to qualify defenseman Keaton Ellerby’s rights last month, the Jets re-signed him to a one-year, two-way contract worth $700K at the NHL level.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames have re-signed goaltender Joni Ortio to a two-year contract, the first season of which is a two-way deal.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: The Canucks have signed 2014 first-round pick Jared McCann to a three-year entry-level contract.
