VANCOUVER PROVINCE: The Canucks showed some signs of life with a 2-0 shutout of the Nashville Predators. Nicklas Jensen and Alexander Edler were the goalscorers while Eddie Lack made 30 saves for the win.
WINNIPEG SUN: Blake Wheeler’s overtime goal lifted the Jets to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Wheeler enjoyed a three-point evening while captain Andrew Ladd scored twice.
TORONTO STAR: Steven Stamkos potted a hat trick as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Maple Leafs 5-3. The Leafs also lost defenseman Paul Ranger to an upper body injury after being hit from behind by Lightning forward Alex Killorn.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The loss to the Lightning leaves the Leafs holding onto one of the final two wild card playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, sitting four points up on Columbus and Washington and five above Detroit. The Canucks and Jets have moved to within three and four points respectively of a wild card berth.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers’ winger Jordan Eberle (sprained knee) is currently doubtful for tonight’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.
OTTAWA SUN: Senators backup Robin Lehner is expected to get his fourth straight star as his club faces off tonight against the Lightning.
MONTREAL GAZETTE: Brandon Prust shook off an upper body injury during the Canadiens win against the Avalanche to score a goal and collect an assist.
