The latest on Jason Spezza, Ryan Miller, Dan Boyle, Dave Bolland, Milan Michalek, Josh Bailey and more.
TSN.CA’s Bob McKenzie reports via Twitter: “Jason Spezza trade talk heating up. OTT in conversation with 4 teams, three in the West and one in the East.”
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’m guessing Anaheim, St. Louis and Dallas are among those Western teams. As for the Eastern clubs, we know the Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers and New York Islanders are reportedly on Spezza’s “no-trade” list, while Senators GM Bryan Murray has no intention of trading Spezza to Montreal or Toronto.
ESPN.COM: Craig Custance reports there could be little trade activity until the Jason Spezza and Ryan Kesler situations are sorted out. The Anaheim Ducks are believed interested in acquiring one of them…The Joe Thornton trade chatter is dying down. It appears unlikely he or Patrick Marleau will be dealt…
Pierre LeBrun reports a “good deal of interest” in pending UFA Dan Boyle, whose rights the NY Islanders are reportedly shopping. Sources confirm Toronto, Detroit and the NY Rangers are them…The St. Louis Blues are among the teams reaching out to Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stastny…The Florida Panthers aren’t close to moving the first overall pick but continue to entertain offers…Talks are ongoing between the Canadiens and Brian Gionta.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Spezza or Kesler could be moved on Friday, the opening day of the draft…Thornton and Marleau are staying put. They won’t waive their no-movement clauses…It’ll be interesting to see if a team will try to acquire Boyle’s rights…The Blues are also among the clubs thought to have interest in Spezza and Kesler.
SPORTSNET.CA: Mike Johnston cites reports claiming the Vancouver Canucks have reached out to Toronto center Dave Bolland and pending UFA goalie Ryan Miller.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Doesn’t mean the Canucks will get either guy but it is worth noting they’re looking into those options. Bolland could become a replacement for Kesler if they trade him in the coming days. Miller would provide experience between the pipes, but is he willing to join a Canadian team? He might not have much choice as there aren’t many clubs seeking a starting goalie.
CBS NEW YORK: cites a report by TSN’s Darren Dreger claiming the NY Islanders could be testing Josh Bailey’s trade value.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Package him with the fifth-overall pick and there could be considerable interest. They could try to use that to either add a left-wing sniper for their first line or a top-four defenseman.
OTTAWA CITIZEN: Wayne Scanlan reports Senators winger Milan Michalek is exploring the free agent interview period to gauge interest from rival clubs. He hasn’t ruled out re-signing with the Senators.
