PHILLY.COM: Claude Giroux, who guaranteed the Flyers would make the playoffs when they began the season 1-7, made good on that promise by scoring twice to lead his club to a 5-2 victory over the Florida Panthers, clinching a postseason berth.
TWINCITIES.COM: Mikko Koivu scored the winner as the Minnesota Wild edged the Boston Bruins 4-3 in a shootout. The victory clinched a playoff spot for the Wild.
WASHINGTON POST: Alexander Ovechkin reached the 50-goal mark for the fifth time in his career and Nicklas Backstrom scored twice as the Capitals kept their playoff hopes alive with a 4-1 win over the slumping St. Louis Blues.
DETROIT FREE PRESS: Third period goals by Darren Helm, David Legwand and Pavel Datsyuk lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. The win moves the Wings within one point of clinching a playoff berth. It also made Mike Babcock the winningest coach in Red Wings history (414).
DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Tyler Seguin scored the winning goal in a shootout and Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves to lift the Dallas Stars t0 a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators, ending the latter’s playoff hopes.
COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Ryan Johansen scored in overtime as the Blue Jackets edged the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3.
NJ.COM: The New Jersey Devils face elimination from the playoff race tonight if either the Blue Jackets or Red Wings win.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: In the East, the Red Wings hold the first wild card berth, one point above the Blue Jackets who hold the second berth. The Capitals sit five points behind the Wings and six back of the Jackets. The Devils are six and seven back respectively. The Stars victory gave them a two point lead over the Coyotes for the final wild card spot in the West.
