LOS ANGELES TIMES: Martin Jones won his eighth straight game by backstopping the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Colorado Avalanche, tying an NHL record by winning his first eight NHL games.
LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS: Ryan Getzlaf scored a hat trick to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 5-3 win over the New York Islanders.
SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS: Joe Thornton’s shootout goal lifted the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars, who also lost defenseman Sergei Gonchar when he was struck in the face by the puck during the second period and didn’t return.
TBO.COM: Radko Gudas scored in overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Four third period goals lifted the Blue Jackets to a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers but it proved costly as Marian Gaborik, just returned to the lineup from a knee injury, suffered a broken collarbone when he was hit by the Flyers’ Zac Rinaldo. The Flyers also learned Steve Downie will miss 7-10 days to an upper-body injury.
NJ.COM: Andy Greene’s overtime goal gave the New Jersey Devils a 5-4 win over the Washington Capitals. Jaromir Jagr scored his 694th career NHL goal to tie Mark Messier for seventh on the all-time goal list, while Alexander Ovechkin tallied his 30th goal in a losing cause for the Capitals.
BOSTON HERALD: Reilly Smith scored twice and Tuukka Rask made 34 saves as the Boston Bruins downed the Buffalo Sabres 4-1.
